Turkey’s tourism revenue grew to $46.3 billion last year. The figure rose 53.4 percent from $30.2 billion in 2021, according to statistics agency TurkStat. Accordingly, 44.6 million foreign tourists visited the country last year. This corresponds to an increase of 80.3 percent compared to the previous year. The average spend for overnight guests was $89 per night. According to TurkStat, travel, entertainment, sports and cultural activities were the top reasons for visiting at 67.1 percent. Adding Turkish citizens living abroad brings the number up to 51.4 million in 2022 – a slight decrease from the pre-pandemic level (51.9 million) in 2019. The number of Turkish citizens who traveled abroad , increased by 165.4 percent to 7.3 million in 2022 compared to the previous year. Average per capita spending was $589, reports TurkStat. Last year, tourism spending rose 130.9 percent year-on-year to $4.2 billion. Of this, around $3.7 billion was accounted for by individual trips and more than $523 million by package tours.
