Important buildings in the ancient city of Side were restored as part of restoration work. The city’s high school (Gymnasium) is one of the most popular places for visitors to the Region.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has started to work on the “Cultural
Heritage Road” accelerates. The project will create a tour route starting in Syedra in
Alanya, passing through the castle of Alanya and Perge and ends with the ancient cities of Phaselis and Olympus.
A minimum budget of 600 million Turkish lira will be allocated for the project in 2024.
The most important part of the Cultural Heritage Road project is the ancient city of Side.
A team of 150 people was assembled for the project, including archaeologists,
Architects, restorers and workers. Work was carried out at 20 locations for 12 months and 57
projects were completed. As a result of the year-long work, important historical buildings were re-built and restored, from old streets to the aqueduct and from the customs building to the high school.
The most important structure restored as part of the project in the ancient city was the
Gymnasium, a monumental building intended for the education of young people living in ancient Side. The restored structure was unveiled with the “Carmina Burana” -concert by the state
Polyphonic Choir, organized as part of the Antalya Cultural Road Festival. The building attracted great attention with its nighttime lightening, magical atmosphere and the eight
large human statues of great interest.
