The Pigeon Valley , one of the most popular historical landmarks of the Central Anatolian region of Cappadocia , will begin welcoming crowds of local and foreign tourists after dark, Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy has announced.
The move is part of the ministry’s Night Museum Project, which aims to introduce visitors to Turkey’s unique historical sites and rich cultural heritage in a completely different atmosphere after sunset.
The pioneering initiative completed its first summer season with remarkable success, particularly in the tourism hotspot of Antalya.
Alanya Castle and the ancient cities of Side, Aspendos, Perge, Phaselis, Patara, Limyra and Myra were all open to night-time visitors during the summer. In addition, the Antalya Archaeological Museum, the Side Archaeological Museum and the Alanya Archaeological Museum were also part of this nocturnal museum project.
This project allowed visitors to leave their accommodation and visit these archaeological sites and museums without being affected by the heat, making for a more enjoyable experience during the busy summer season.
