A death is generally a difficult time for relatives and involves a lot of official paperwork. If someone dies outside of Turkey and owns real estate or other assets in Turkey, the relatives also need a certificate of inheritance in Turkey in order to be able to claim the inheritance. The application for the certificate of inheritance must be made to a Turkish court within 8 months of the death abroad, otherwise late payment fees will be charged. If a person died in Turkey, the application must be made within 4 months.
